IER Message to Biden: Ensure Affordable Energy for Americans

Washington, DC – Institute for Energy Research (IER) today applauds President Obama’s efforts to create a Middle Class Task Force. The task force, led by Vice President Biden, will work to raise standards of living for middle-class Americans.

“Vice President Biden, as you take on this critically important effort, we at IER urge you to remember that energy is the lifeblood of our economy,” said IER President, Thomas Pyle. “More affordable energy means more work for Americans. Efforts to allow exploration of some of the 96 percent of government-owned acreage that has not been leased for energy exploration in your task force’s plans could provide jobs, new revenues, and a long-term supply of energy.

“Many of your Administration’s energy proposals would increase the cost of energy, such as those that compel consumers and businesses to purchase expensive alternative energy. We urge you to investigate and remediate the federal government’s hoarding of the vast unexplored domestic energy supplies the American people own and direly need. Doing so will ensure that you meet your Task Force’s noble goal and truly improve the lives of middle-class Americans. Neither America’s families, nor the businesses that employ them, need more expensive energy. ”
