Time to Turn the Page on Obama’s Reckless Climate Agenda

WASHINGTON — IER President Thomas Pyle issued the following statement after tonight’s State of the Union address:

“In tonight’s State of the Union address, President Obama promised that we would ‘turn the page.’ He should start by turning the page on his destructive climate agenda.

“Just a few years ago, the president said we couldn’t drill our way to lower gasoline prices. He was wrong. Gasoline prices are under $2 per gallon in many areas, but it is despite the president’s policies, not because of them.

“We are drilling, not regulating, our way to energy security. America is now the top oil and natural gas producer in the world. The production boom has come almost exclusively on state and private lands, which are out of President Obama’s regulatory reach. At the same time, production on federal lands has plummeted due to the administration’s policies.

“Whether it’s delaying the Keystone XL pipeline, slapping red tape on oil and gas production, or implementing onerous regulations that will kill our reliable coal-fired power plants, the president has worked tirelessly to bring America’s energy boom to a screeching halt. Thankfully, America’s energy producers have outpaced him every step of the way.

“The president claimed we would ‘turn the page’ tonight. Unfortunately, he’s still reading from the same old book.”
