Renewable Goal Status: On Track

  • 2009 Estimated Qualified Renewable Generation: 4%[i]

Eligible Resources: Solar Water Heat, Solar Space Heat, Solar Thermal Electric, Solar Thermal Process Heat, Photovoltaics, Landfill Gas, Wind, Biomass, Hydroelectric, Geothermal Electric, Geothermal Heat Pumps, Municipal Solid Waste, Solar Light Pipes, Solar Pool Heating, Anaerobic Digestion, Tidal Energy, Wave Energy, Fuel Cells using Renewable Fuels, Geothermal Direct-Use[iii]

Renewable portfolio history: In 2007, VA enacted a voluntary renewable portfolio standard. HB1994 in 2009 expanded this goal. To incentivize utilities to comply with the voluntary RPS in VA, the Virginia state Corporation Commission (SCC) will provide a performance incentive in the form of an increased rate of return (profit) for each “RPS Goal” attained to participating utilities.[v]
